This cold weather we are having in Saskatoon makes me want to cuddle up under a blanket and not come out until April! Unfortunately, being a couch potato isn't good for me or for the two little spuds who call me Mom. So, I am always on the lookout for ideas and inspiration for staying active as a family, especially when the cold temperatures set in.

The Saskatchewan in motion web site is always a wonderful place to find practical ideas for staying active all year long. It recently posted a fantastic book list to inspire families like mine to be active and outdoors.

I was thrilled to be asked to read and review one of the 12 Books to Raise Active Kids By. Afterward, I joined fellow Saskatchewan mom bloggers, Kathryn Gignac of Mommy Kat and Kids and Shayna Murray of Mommy Outside the Box, to share our book reviews during Episode 9 of the Mom 2 Mom podcast.

Mom 2 Mom is a monthly podcast created by Saskatchewan in motion in partnership with Saskatchewan Blue Cross. {I enjoy listening to these podcasts while I fold laundry.} Each session has a different panel of Saskatchewan moms chatting about practical ideas for raising active kids.

The book I chose to review was Playborhood by Mike Lanza. I love how this book encourages parents to work together to turn their neighbourhoods into vibrant places for play that will get kids outside and interacting with other kids. In fact, I wrote down two pages of practical action items that I hope to implement in my yard and within my community! You can hear me describe my favourite parts of the book in the Mom 2 Mom podcast.

Thanks to Saskatchewan in motion, I have a copy of Playborhood and two additional books from its book list to give away! I will be drawing three lucky Saskmom.com followers to win one of the following books:
  1. Playborhood: Turn Your Neighborhood into a Place for Play by Mike Lanza
  2. The Stick Book: Loads of Things You Can Make or Do with a Stick by Fiona Danks
  3. Birdwatching for Kids by George H. Harrison

Two winners will be drawn using the entry form below. A third winner will be drawn from comments on the Saskmom.com page on Facebook. The contest will close December 13 at 11:59 p.m.
