 Singing with Sylvia for Christmas

It's Earth Day today. Now that I'm a parent, I find myself growing even more aware of and concerned about pollution and conservation. We make twice the impact in our environment as parents, not only through our own actions, but also by teaching our children by our example.

The average person throws away more than four pounds of trash each day. This trash ends up in our growing landfills and littered around our city. Here are three fun things you can do today to make a difference:

1. Take your spring cleaning to the next level by repurposing unused items. Click here for a local list of resources for recycling, reducing, reusing and repurposing.

2. Visit Going Green in 2010, a fun blog by a Saskatchewan mom who has challenged herself to do one eco-friendly act each day in 2010.

3. Join Baby J and me as we clean up one of our local parks on Wednesday, April 28, between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.  I have chosen Weaver Park. It is a 10-acre area with a lot of green space and, unfortunately, quite a bit of trash.

Feel free to come and go, stop and play or nurse as you need to. The more hands we have out next Wednesday, the quicker we'll get this spot cleaned up and the more fun we will have.  (I'll bring the Tim Hortons coffee if you bring your reusable mug!)

I will be registering this project with the Meewasin and Affinity Credit Union Clean Up Campaign, so I will need to know how many are planning to join me by noon on Monday, April 26. If interested in joining us, leave a comment below.

  1. Hi Laura! Thanks for mentioning my blog! My daughter and I will most certainly be dropping in to lend a hand with the clean up :)

  3. Just double checking that this is still happening tomorrow? Is there anything I will need to bring for the clean up? Thanks!

  4. Rain is pretty much a given for tomorrow morning. Soggy trash isn't a lot of fun to pick up, so we will plan this for another day in the very near future. Stay tuned!
