 Singing with Sylvia for Christmas

{ Turn Over a New Leaf 31-Day Challenge }

I am a sucker for new beginnings: a new year, a fresh start, a clean slate, a new adventure!

Although research shows somewhere around 80 to 90 percent of New Year's resolutions fail, I still feel compelled to reflect and recommit to a series of goals as a new year emerges. I have read a number of recommendations lately that, instead of setting resolutions, having a one-word focus might be more effective when it comes to making positive changes.

As I have been thinking about this for the past couple weeks, "wellness" keeps coming to mind as something I would like to focus on in 2017. To me, wellness is a word that encompasses a wholistic and balanced approach to nutrition, fitness, self-care and emotional health. I am not a fan of fads and fast fixes. However, I am always on the look-out for tips for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and tactics for incorporating wellness changes into my family's day-to-day life.

To kick-start my Year of Wellness, I have decided to participate in Chopped Leaf's 31-day challenge to "turn over a new leaf." Each day in January, Chopped Leaf will share wellness tips through FacebookTwitter or Instagram, and each day it will select one challenge participant to win a $15 gift card through social media comments. Plus, one lucky participant who shares her "new leaf" goals and progress online by February 3 will receive a grand prize valued at $2,500 that includes a $1,000 gift card to Chopped Leaf, a full-year membership to GoodLife Fitness and a spa and wellness package.

Perhaps you'd like to join me? I have found that accountability is key for me in achieving big goals that I make for myself. If you're game, let me know below or through my social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram @saskmomdotcom). I would love to support you in your own Year of Wellness, and I would sure love the encouragement as well. Let's do this!

  1. I'm also going to be concentrating on wellness this year Laura, already feel stronger that we can support each other. :)

  2. My focus will be healing. Both physical and emotional. That my food habits can change while my shoulder heals and not have to wait till I'm 100% before I'm worth the effort

  3. So good to hear from you, ladies! Your comments alone have given me such encouragement. Glad to be alongside you in this.

    Heather, this is such an important focus you have committed to, and I commend you for taking this important stand for YOU. Yours sounds like a familiar starting place for me. I am starting to accept that there is no such thing as a "perfect time." Now is quite simply the time. I cannot let my procrastinating perfectionism get in the way of my overall wellness any longer.

    Be sure to check out Chopped Leaf's social media channels to be entered in the daily draws!
