 Singing with Sylvia for Christmas

My Kitchen Inspiration

My Kitchen Inspiration
During the initial consultation with Marilena and Carissa of Fabulous Design+, they asked me to share a bit about my vision for my kitchen. There were only three items that I knew I wanted: new lighting over the island, a tile backsplash and the colour purple.

{ over-the-island lights, aka my husband's arch-enemies }
The frosted-glass lights installed by the builder always look dusty to me no matter how many times I clean them. {Which is why I never clean them. Makes sense, right?} Even though they hang over the island, my six-foot-four husband frequently finds ways to bonk his head on them. They need to go!

{ where our kitchen counter meets the wall = yuck! }
Underneath the cupboards, along the bare back wall, I have always envisioned beautiful tile backsplash. Over the past year, the counter has begun pulling away from the wall causing unsightly holes in the caulking. A nice tiling job would remedy this as well.

Finally, I have fallen in love with the colour purple since the arrival and departure of my second child Ava Faith. Click here and {grab a tissue} if you would like to read more about my obsession with purple.

Even though I love the colour, I also feel purple is sort of a scary colour to paint one's walls. I fear it could go horribly wrong left in my hands alone. I was very eager to hear the opinions of a couple interior design gurus.

I shared with them one of the pieces that fueled my inspiration for an eggplant shade of purple. This "Faith" plaque was left on my porch by a sweet friend shortly after we had Ava. Not only does it bear her beautiful middle name, but its message has brought me great encouragement during our seasons of pain and disappointment: "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him. ~ Romans 15:13."  It currently sits above my kitchen cabinets as a reminder of where my family's joy and hope comes.

    { my source of inspiration in more ways than one }
As for the rest of the details, I am up for whatever suggestions the Fabulous Design duo might have up their sleeves for me . . . as long as it falls within the husband-imposed budget of $500!
