 Singing with Sylvia for Christmas

Today my daughter and I tried something new together: yoga!

Dianna Stampe {and her cutie-pie grandson} are leading a parent-and-tot yoga hour inside the Saskatoon Farmers' Market on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Admission is free with a suggested donation to Vinyasa Yoga for Youth, a group with which Dianna teaches in schools around the city. {And don't forget toonie-an-hour parking around the Market.}

Parents should bring a munchkin in the 16 months to 3.5-year-old age range, a mat and perhaps some munchies. {I left ours on the counter today, but was graciously bailed out by the other kind mamas.}

We began in a resting pose -- my favourite! The kidlets climbed on top of us or roamed around in the open area surrounded by curtains. There were some poses we did alone and others we did with the willing children.  Some included rhymes and song.

At one point, we all grabbed lovely scarves and followed the leader, played choo-choo train, soared like birds and danced to the music.

By the time we closed in savasana {ahh! more resting!} and a cuddly "Namaste," I was surprised to feel some nice, gentle stretching and core engagement had occurred. I also felt like I had spent some active fun time with my little girlie.

If you can enter in WITHOUT expectation of an amazing yoga workout and a perfectly cooperative little yogi, then this might be an adventure for you and yours to try.  We found it to be a fun, relaxed and active indoor activity. Perhaps you will, too.

This class started up in mid-January 2014 with hopes to meet every Wednesday morning indoors until it can be moved outside in the warmer months to come.
