 Singing with Sylvia for Christmas

You and your children can get up close and personal with a new animal during story time at the Saskatoon Zoo Affinity Learning Centre, December 13 and 14 at 1:30 p.m.

Last week, Little J and I attended the story time, sponsored by the Saskatoon Zoo Society. Zoo Society staff read a cute story about lizards and then brought out two of the zoo's lizards for the children to touch. Little J especially loved touching the "little dinosaur" (otherwise known as a bearded dragon, pictured here) and a smooth-skinned skink. The leader also brought out a box of bugs and talked about what the lizards eat. The kids went wild over watching this lizard catch its food with its quick tongue.

I appreciated that the staff members were very conscious about cleanliness, the children's safety as well as the animals' safety!

Zoo and park admission is free until April 1, 2012, so it's a great time to visit the zoo.  All the animals are still out and about in the winter time, except for the migratory birds. Winter hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
