 Singing with Sylvia for Christmas

pelican watch

It won't be long until our boldly-beaked pelican friends flock back home to the weir -- true heralds of spring in Saskatoon.

The Meewasin Valley Centre is holding a Pelican Party at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, to celebrate the birds' impending return.  Older children and adults will discover fascinating facts about pelicans, can play Pelican Twister and make a pelican craft. The interpretive centre features hands on exhibits for all ages.

You can also enter the annual Pelican Watch Contest. Each spring Saskatoon residents can guess the arrival time of the first pelican to land on the river between the Canadian Pacific Railway Bridge and the weir. You can drop off or mail your guess of the date and time. Entries are free but limited to one per person. Check the link for entry details and the list of cool prizes!  The entry deadline is March 31.

The Meewasin Valley Centre, located at 402 Third Avenue South, has free admission and interesting events year-round.
